TecnoDec
- with Special Version REGA RB250 Tonearm
In
the May 2006 issue of STEREOPHILE Michael Fremer gave the TecnoDec
a wonderful review.
Conclusion:
"Although the field is crowded with US$1700 turntables worth
considering, the Michell TecnoDec is easy to recommend."

Michell's
entry level turntable has the sound quality one would expect from
a Michell product, yet at a price 1/3 less than the Gyro SE. The
TecnoDec shares a similar vinyl-damped acrylic platter, inverted
main bearing and DC motor to that of the Gyro, but dispenses with
a sprung subchassis. Isolation feet and a stand-alone motor housing
ensure minimal noise pickup. The TecnoDec is so simple to set up,
with no complicated adjustments. Comes complete with an outboard
DC power supply with internal speed adjustment capability.
The
supplied Special Version Rega RB250 includes a TecnoWeight, VTA
adjuster and knurled finger nut for quick VTA adjustments, and is
sonically superior to the standard RB250 or RB300.

ODYSSEY
Limited Edition Memorial Turntable- w/TecnoArm
Only
100 available for the world market. SOLD OUT

After
the sad loss of John Michel in October 2003, Michell Engineering
honored his memory with a special commemorative turntable produced
18 months later. The Odyssey Limited Edition Turntable reflects
on John's earlier days when he produced spaceship models and props
for Stanley Kubrick's classic film, "2001 A Space Odyssey".
Based
on the ever popular GyroDec, the Odyssey was produced in a numbered
series of only 100 pieces. This gorgeous looking deck was supplied
in all black finish with a black acrylic base and clear dust cover.
John was very fond of the soft silver patina of nickel, so Michell
plated the gyroscopic weights below the platter in this lovely finish.
The
black metal subchassis has anti-resonant DensoDamp applied to its
underside as on the flagship Orbe model and also sits on a clear
acrylic spyder to give a second level of isolation as on the Orbe.
Special matching black versions of the TecnoArm, record clamp and
HR upgraded power supply, finish off the package.
With
its striking finish, attention to detail and outstanding sound quality,
all the decks sold out.
Dimensions:
21" W x 16" D x 8.25" H

SE MKII - Gold Edition - w/o arm - Includes
the Never-Connected
Power supply |

The
Orbe SE MKII is powered by a European-made DC motor that provides
a tachometer feedback signal for the new NC Tacho power supply.
Using this signal, the power supply adjusts its output to keep the
motor turning at a constant speed. By ensuring the load is never
connected directly to the incoming AC mains supply, the new Never-Connected
power supply circuit totally breaks the conduction path from mains
pollution, preventing unwanted contamination by noise and interference.
The sound improvement is stunning.

The
Michell TecnoArm is constructed with a derivative of the Rega RB250
arm tube and bearing housing. A proprietary process is then applied
to the arm tube to toughen the bearing housing and headshell areas.
The arm tube mass is lowered at the headshell end, with 22 holes
precision drilled on the underside. This increases trackability
and reduces unwanted resonances. The underside of the headshell
is then aligned to the main bearings and precision milled in a jig,
ensuring zero azimuth for the cartridge. The arm is internally damped
and rewired with one continuous length of 99.999% pure silver Litz
wire between Michell's own silver-plated machined cartridge
clips and the silver-plated RCA plugs. The two-piece TecnoWeight
counterweight is supplied with two weights: the heavy one for cartridges
between 6g and 13g, the lighter one for cartridges between 3g and
6g. The TecnoWeight has a precision vernier adjustment for setting
tracking weight in 1/10th gram increments. Michell's popular VTA
adjuster and Finger Nut are included as well, making adjustments
a snap.

Artech
Electronics has been supplying an exclusive North American version
of the Rega RB250 on the Michell TecnoDec for some time. The RB250
Special Version provides far better performance than an RB300, even
if equipped with the same upgrades. This tonearm sounds so good
that dealers and consumers have been asking us to supply it on the
Gyro SE or on its own. We have therefore made arrangements for Michell
Engineering to put this arm together for us in standard Rega style
retail packaging (Molded foam clamshell with outside carton).
The
arm consists of a Michell-branded RB250 onto which the Michell Tecnoweight,
VTA Adjuster and Finger Nut have been installed. It includes 3 shorter
arm board standoffs to give a wider range of VTA adjustment if used
on a GyroDec, or Orbe turntable. Mounting template, alignment protractor
and instructions are included.
Arm
weight (w/o cable): 454 grams. Effective mass 11 grams.
